The Black Keys is a lo-fi blues rock duo from the US. Actually before I heard them I considered blues rock to be a dull old and dusty stuff, music not for me. But these guys have an awesome new formula of blues rock. One of them is playing guitar and singing the other is drumming and that’s it. They refused to have orchestras and huge complex solos, just pure raw blues energy plus parts of garage rock and they did it. It sounds great.
They are often compared with White Stripes, but they have nothing to do with this band, the vibe is completely different. The best Black Keys album is Rubber Factory, released in 2004, the rest of the albums are also nice but this one is the best. Starting with a hit When The Lights Go Out, a slow groovy dark blues that opened the movie Black Snake Moan (I already wrote about it), that with awesome fast song 10 A.M. Automatic and he whole 40 minutes of the album rush with a spin.
The Black Keys have a very strong thing they maintained the spirit of the good old Mississippi blues and that is really hard.
