The Mars Volta is a progressive rock/emo band from the US, the band was created when the cult 90th emo band At The Drive-In split up into two parts part of the members decided to go the hard way and formed screamo outfit Sparta and part to follow more melodic – progressive style and formed The Mars Volta (The in the name is important because Mars Volta is an electronic project, that has nothing to do with this band).

The Mars Volta

De-Loused In The Comatorium released in 2003 was their debut work. Attention bass guitar on this record was played by… Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, but it’s actually not so important. The whole album is a spectacular mix of emo, jazz, indie and some latin vibes with very avant-garde approach. My personal favorite is the spectacular latin-electronic-ambient ballad Televators, but also the rest of the album is not bad. It immediately kicks of into a vibe of indescribable music, I can’t even imagine what could be in the heads of these people. Mostly I recommend to listen this record at a party, or with your girlfriend, but not this time. It’s a real gem in modern day music you should listen it very careful if you want to understand it.
