I perfectly understand that there are a lot of Indie music sites and indie music blog in the web and even one simple google search will provide you with tones of sites, so the competition is really tough and all bloggers try their best to make their blogs the most interesting for you to read and enjoy. We have been running IndieSpeaker for a couple of years and all our posts are mostly about news, reviews, tips and impressions and it’s the first time we are ready to stop and tell you a couple of words about indie music history. Would you like to find more about it???

Indie music stands for INDEPENDENT music and here the notion independent means independence from most and main commercial record labels. Those who create “Indie” music prefer doing everything on their own: recording, promotion and performances. Fame and money are not the options such bands are looking for.

Everything has started in 1960’s and this music was a mix of most genres: pop, rock and roll and R&B. Main lyrics’ themes were peace, love and and humanity. One of the first “Indie” groups was “Velvet Underground”. Their music was different, unique and their performance was one-of-a-kind: warm, fresh and really entertaining.

Since the ‘60s experimenting in music became something common and more and more groups were immerging.

In the era of 1970 appeared “Progressive Rock”, a kind of music that combined hard rock and soft music. In 20 years this rock turned to be the base of electronic instrumental music.

Since 1980s a new form of music immerged, we currently name it “alternative music”.

Unfortunately now more and more pioneer “Indie” bands become commercialized and this circumstance makes fans feels really terrible.

I DO hope this short pause from indie music reviews will be useful!
