8bitpeoples.com is a website is one of the best representatives of modern independent music and RushJet1 is one of the best representatives of this site. This label is focusing on 8 bit and chiptune music, (music composed and played on old sound cards, for those who don’t know) naturally it is not very popular due to unusual sound. But for people like me who had an original gameboy, nes or an amiga this music is very touching.

RushJet1 is playing almost original chuptune with no modern sounds, good atmosphere and awesome melodies. While his first album “Sounds of the 2A03” has a bit more aggressive (even a bit breakcore) sound his second work – “Out There” has more dreamy and space approach. Reminiscent of the space era pop and soundtracks mixed with vintage computer games the album delivers exactly the best retro space vibe. The only bad thing that it is too short.

So if you are not afraid of PC speaker sounds you can check the music of these enthusiasts at www.8bitpeoples.com, by the way it is absolutely free.

Have I mentioned that most interesting indie bands are from Japan? No? Then this is my official statement: the most interesting indie bands are from Japan!

The best description for YMCK is 8-bit-jazz.

They make music that is generally called chiptune or 8-bit, as instruments they use mostly analog sounds from old console games. But when most of their colleagues use these sounds in more electronic way, YMCK use it a jazz instruments. You can clearly get the bass line, jazzy drums and various arrangement instruments like keyboards or probably brass. The whole music reminds of the 50th smooth jazz especially the childish female vocals.

They have released two albums so far “Family Music” (2003) and “Family Racing” (2005) made few world tours and participated in some major electronic festivals. As for me their best success is a swing-styled song from the “Family Racing” album.
